Saint Brendan's Online
A Monastic, Oblate, and Retreat Mission in the Celtic and Benedictine Traditions

The Breviary is the daily heartbeat of monastic life at Saint Brendan's.  It contains the monastic "Office of the Hours" for prayer throughout the day.  The Hours include the daytime Offices of Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline as well as versions of Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and a general Intercession Litany.  The Breviary also includes hymns, chant modes, charts for the monthly reading of the Psalter, and other resources.  The Breviary is almost entirely drawn from Scripture which sets it apart from other similar books of prayer.  145 pages.

Saint Brendan's Rule of Life is a contemporary adaptation of the venerable Rule of St. Benedict.  It stands as the community "plumbline" for how we are shaped into the image of Christ.  It takes the lay monastic through the various aspects of consecrated life including the basic pillars of monasticism (i.e., obedience, stability, fidelity, etc.) as well as the traditional disciplines of monastic spirituality.  It is cross-referenced to the Rule of St. Benedict throughout and is filled with Scripture references for those people who would like to use the Rule of Life as a tool for Bible study.  90 pages.

The Holy Eucharist is the service used in Holy Trinity Chapel at Saint Brendan's for celebrating Holy Communion.  (It is currently a provisional service.  It will be available for purchase as soon as we receive formal approval.)  The Holy Eucharist is a contemporary and scriptural adaptation of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, making provision for hymns, contemporary praise, offertories, opportunities for prayers for healing with anointing and the laying-on of hands, etc.  23 pages.

Printed Resources

Our printed resources reflect the order and structure of monastic spirituality; an order and structure that, conversley, produces tremendous spiritual freedom and liberty without the constant need for novelty and innovation.

These resources are tied to our corporate life at the altar, in prayer, and in daily living.  Each one is hammered out on the anvil of Scripture so that, in all things, we are brought into the image of the Living Word, Jesus Christ.
